Sara Wolkensdorfer

Sara Wolkensdorfer, a Central New York native, holds a BA in Psychology from Ithaca College, and graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law. While at Syracuse, Sara was on the dean’s list all semesters, received an award in constitutional law, and interned at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. Her dedication to public service gained her acceptance into the introductory class of New York’s Pro Bono Scholar Program, which allowed her to take the bar examination early and to devote the rest of her final semester of law school to pro bono service at the Office of the Public Defender in Rockville, MD.

After graduation, Sara became a fellow with Poverty Justice Solutions, a collaboration among the Robin Hood Foundation, the New York State Unified Court System, and the New York City Human Resources Administration, placing law graduates with legal service providers in an effort to increase representation to low-income New Yorkers in Housing Court. During this two-year fellowship, Sara worked at Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A representing tenants in affirmative litigation against landlords in housing, state, and federal court.

In 2018, Sara joined the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem and worked as part of an interdisciplinary team providing clients civil legal assistance in housing, employment, school suspension, asset forfeiture, public benefits, and police misconduct, in an effort to mitigate the collateral consequences triggered by contact with the criminal legal and/or family regulatory system(s). Sara has represented clients in trials, hearings, and/or appeals in city and state courts and within various administrative forums. Sara was a supervising attorney from 2019-2022 and interim managing attorney for her final six months at NDS.

Sara is admitted in New York state, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of New York.
